Aitutaki is undoubtedly one of the most gorgeous lagoon islands in the world. Unlike its rival Bora Bora, Aitutaki Lagoon is down-to-earth, uncommercial and reflects the South Seas of old. The main attraction of Aitutaki are the uninhabited islands on the fringing reef of the lagoon - these are where the gorgeous picture-perfect beach images are from and this is where Akaiami Paradise Ltd. is located. We are one of only three accommodation properties on these islands, and of them, we are the only up-market property. There are a few restaurants and shops on the main island of Aitutaki and just recently the addition of an automatic teller, though one should have enough cash due to it not being reliable all the time - travellers checks may be traded at some hotels only. Getting to Aitutaki: Air Rarotonga are the only internal airline with 4-5 daily flights from Rarotonga (international airport) to Aitutaki and back, but no flights on Sundays. A visitor permit for 31 days is granted to all Nationals on arrival at Rarotonga airport (presentation of a valid passport for at least six months beyond the intended period of stay and a ticket for return or onward travel is required). Visas can be extended for up to six months at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Immigration in Rarotonga. Departure Tax Adults = NZ$55; Children 2-12yrs years = NZ$15 Infants free. The Cook Islands uses the NZ$ currency - 24-hr ATM cash machine can be found at the airport & in Avarua Town on Rarotonga and in Amuri village & Arutanga Town on Aitutaki. Westpac bank opens for all international flights. Major credit cards are accepted at most shops on Rarotonga and some will exchange travellers cheques as well. Cook Islands time is 10 hours behind GMT (London), 20 hours behind NZ and 5 hours behind US West Coast. International Dialling Code = (682) Electricity = 240v / 40Hz (same voltage as UK and NZ) with plugs being three flat pins (same as NZ). US Visitors will require a convertor.
